Success through inclusion – Normet’s employee-focused approach in India creates results

07.10.2025

Thriving employees build thriving businesses. This has been demonstrated by Normet, a Finnish manufacturer of mining and tunnelling vehicles, which received Finnpartnership’s Business Partnership Support to enter the Indian market.

In Normet’s Indian unit, over 80% of employees report satisfaction with their working conditions, equality, and opportunities for professional growth.

With the support from Finnpartnership, Normet developed a new training model in India, through which 75 employees have already been trained. The model strengthens employee skills and career development – and the results speak for themselves.

Employee satisfaction at an all-time high

Earlier this year, Finnpartnership conducted an on-site monitoring visit in India in collaboration with Normet’s employees. The process included a tool that enabled anonymous feedback collection from staff.

Key findings from the monitoring:

  • 95% feel safe at work
  • 86% feel their skills are valued
  • 100% perceive the workplace as diverse
  • 88% have received training, with 95% satisfied with it
  • 93% receive sufficient food daily
  • 100% are satisfied with their accommodation arrangements

“Caring for employees at the core of everything we do”

According to Petteri Malin, Normet’s Director of Global Production Development, the company’s success is built on a simple principle: caring for employees is at the heart of everything.

“Our values at Normet are not just ink on paper – they guide our everyday actions. We are committed to ensuring that our people return home in the same physical and mental condition as when they arrived at work. We use the WeCare employee survey to gather timely and reliable feedback directly from our staff. This continuous and systematic feedback allows us to react in real time and improve employee wellbeing in a structured way,” Malin explains.

Looking ahead, Normet will continue to develop wellbeing together with its employees – by listening, responding sensitively, and continuously developing wellbeing.

Monitoring enables progress

Finnpartnership conducts 4–5 monitoring visits annually to projects it supports in various target countries. The aim is to gather insights into the implementation and current status of the supported Finnish company’s project, provide recommendations if needed, and offer support services.

During these visits, both the Finnish and local partners are interviewed. If the local organisation has a sufficient number of employees, an anonymous survey is also conducted. This ensures that every employee has a voice. Participation does not require literacy, as the survey is carried out in the local language and does not require internet access.
