UN-Habitat provides strategic partnership opportunities for Finnish companies in Laos

UN-Habitat promotes sustainable urban development and works together with various partners to build inclusive and safe cities as well as communities. In Lao PDR, the organisation is actively seeking partnerships with Finnish companies and institutions. By partnering with UN-Habitat, Finnish companies can enhance their visibility in a growing Southeast Asian market and build long-term partnerships.
UN-Habitat is interested in innovative technologies, expertise, and business models that can drive progress in six key areas:
- Water operators’ partnership for water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH)
- Strengthen water utilities to enhance resilience to climate change.
- Develop decentralised water supply systems for underserved communities.
- Explore eco-innovative approaches for wastewater treatment.
- Housing and sustainable construction
- Promote affordable, disaster-resilient, and sustainable housing solutions.
- Pilot green building materials and technologies suitable for Lao PDR’s context.
- Renewable energy: solar and eco-based solutions
- Deploy solar-powered infrastructure for community services such as schools, public institutions, and health infrastructure.
- Integrate energy-efficient solutions into urban and rural development.
- State of settlements and research
- Conduct research to understand socio-economic trends and their impacts on different typologies of settlements.
- Develop tools and frameworks for evidence-based policy and planning.
- Education and digitalisation
- Integrate climate change and resilience-building into school curricula in six provinces.
- Strengthen digital platforms for education in the remote districts of the six provinces.
- Mobility and e-vehicles
- Promote sustainable urban mobility solutions, particularly electric vehicles (e-bikes and buses).
- Collaborate on pilot projects to establish charging infrastructure and promote e-mobility adoption.
Finnpartnership invites interested Finnish companies to contact Huong Phan (huong.phan@finnpartnership.fi) about potential cooperation with UN-Habitat. Finnish companies can receive Business Partnership Support for piloting with an ODA-eligible international organisation, such as UN-Habitat. Financial grant can be awarded for a pilot or demonstration project related to a technology or solution implemented as part of the organisation’s activities. The funding amount ranges from EUR 15,000–400,000, and for projects in Lao PDR, Finnpartnership covers 50 or 75 percent of the approved project costs, depending on the size of the applicant company.
