Finnpartnership attended UN Climate Change Conference COP28 in Dubai
Finnpartnership had the honour to participate in the UN Climate Change Conference COP28 in Dubai in December. The COP28 thematic program was designed to unite a diverse range of stakeholders – all levels of governments, youth, business and investors, civil society, frontline communities, indigenous peoples, and others – around specific solutions to be scaled up this decade to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees, build resilience, and mobilize finance at scale.
On the 8th day of the summit, on 8 December, the thematic programme was about Youth, Children, Education and Skills. The Namibia Party, coordinated by the Environmental Investment Fund of Namibia (EIF) and the Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board (NIPDB), invited Julian Blom, Global Gateway Project Lead at Finnpartnership, to speak at a panel at the Namibia Pavilion. At the panel “Unlocking Namibia’s Potential: Navigating Resources and Green Industry for Youth Empowerment and Sustainable Economic Growth”, moderated by Ms. Enid Johr from CCBA Namibia, the participants reflected on ways to building sustainable economic growth through youth empowerment. The other panellists were Ms. Shimbi Rhode from World Food Programme, Prof. Harmony Musiyarira from NUST university, and Mr. Deon Shekuza from Global Center on Adaptation.
Namibia is a country of enormous opportunities and resources contributing to the needed green transition to tackle climate change. With a history of efficient collaboration, Finland and Finnpartnership along with Namibian partners, have enabled several commercial and educational projects in Namibia, contributing to new jobs and promoting sustainable business practices. Finnpartnership being invited to speak at the panel showed the appreciation of the Namibian partners for valuing the long-lasting collaboration.
The Finnish pavilion also offered a comprehensive programme of interesting panels and discussions on topics such as innovation, green skills, and energy transition. Finland is in the forefront in innovation and R&D for green technologies and solutions which was showcased throughout the Finland Pavilion programme.
