Offering

Dark Earth Carbon Tanzania Ltd partners with smallholder farmers to source crop residues to convert waste biomass into biochar. By transforming this waste,  carbon is sequestered, locked in the soil for hundreds of years, helping to combat climate change. Biochar improves soil quality, and enhances water retention and fertility while reducing the need for chemical fertilizers.

Markets and customers

Main markets are Europe for carbon credits and local farmers and fertilizer companies for biochar. 

Additional information

The company is currently producing biochar in Mafinga, Tanzania, with a second facility under construction in Kigoma. They have developed strong in-house engineering expertise to scale this model across Africa. They are WBC certified and have recently completed a carbon sink audit, making them one of the first carbon removal companies in the region.
