Project abstractSemliki Cooperative Society Ltd, a Ugandan coffee farmers’ cooperative specialised in Arabica and Robusta coffee production is searching for Finnish partners for buying their coffee.

Project description

The cooperative, registered in 2011 is based in Fort Portal and Bundibugyo, Uganda and the cooperative itself currently employs 15 persons permanently and on average 40 people temporarily. In addition, the society has over 1,000 members which consist of producers operating under Semliki Cooperative Society Ltd.

The cooperative’s main products include Arabica and Robusta coffee. Semliki Cooperative Society Ltd is a cooperative society with 25 member groups operating in Kabarole, Bundibugyo and Ntoroko districts in the Rwenzori region of western Uganda. Semliki Cooperative Society Ltd was registered as a co-operative society in 2011. According to the cooperative, they are in the process of becoming Fairtrade-certified and expect to obtain its certificate by the end of 2016.

The customers so far have been mostly locals but the producers aim at increasing their coffee production while finding buyers abroad.

The cooperative is currently looking for partners who wish to buy coffee from producers operating under Semliki Cooperative Society Ltd.
