Project abstractSeed Savers Network, a Kenyan social enterprise specialised in improving seed access to small holder farmers, is searching for Finnish partners for supplying ecological/organic vegetable seeds for the network while they will take care of marketing and distribution. The network is also looking for a partner that can provide relevant technological solutions in agriculture.
Project description
Seed Savers Network,an organization established in 2009 is based in Gilgil, Kenya is specialized in distribution of vegetable seeds and currently employs 5 persons.
Seed Savers Network’s main offering is a combination of products and services. The network is also a social enterprise that improves seed access of the poor family farming communities by distributing seeds and giving guidance. The network builds farmers capacity in order to improve production and increase income in the rural areas in Kenya.
In 2016 the organization targets to reach 10 000 small scale farmers which is 2000 more than in 2015. Seed Savers Networks also wants to extend their reach to large scale farmers as soon as there is a partner from Finland. The network is a social enterprise operating at grassroots levels targeting small scale farmers. Over 30,000 farmers have been served by the network in various projects and programs for the last 6 years. The organisations supports farmers in the Rift Valley and Central Kenya to adopt sustainable seed systems for rural development. Seed Savers’ business strategy in the future is to establish agents and stockiest in strategic locations across the country and across East African region.
The organisation is currently looking for a partner company from Finland which can provide seeds and/or agriculture related technologies that can be used by farmers in Kenya to improve production and increase income for the poor. The partner company would provide seeds and/or technology while Seed Savers Network takes care of marketing and distribution in Kenya.
