Project descriptionHydrox Holdings Limited, established in 2002 is based in Randburg, Johannesburg and currently employs 4 full time persons.
Hydrox Holdings Ltd. provides innovative solutions for producing hydrogen inexpensively from water, through patented, Divergent Electrode Flow Through (DEFTTM) principle for alkaline electrolysis technology. The company operates in research and development work in low cost hydrogen production based upon patented award-winning technology. Hydrox, is the first company in the world to build a membraneless prototype 5Kg/day electrolyser through patented technology.
The customer so far have been Shell through its GameChanger Programme who provided seed funding linked to various milestones which were all achieved. The market for hydrogen is huge and hydrox is getting numerous enquiries for hydrogen from all over.

Future development will entail a technology capable of replacing the anodes by a material that can function around 200 °C and also to develop a new polymers that can handle the high temperatures. Hydrox is also keen to proceed with the study of the mobility solution through a base hydrogen producing facility, which supplies compressed hydrogen (in tanks) to existing petrol filling stations with a hydrogen dispenser, all within a certain radius from the facility to limit costs.
