Project abstractGlobal Solar Private Limited, a Zimbabwean company specialised in manufacturing LED bulbs as well as supply, installation and maintenance of solar energy systems mainly for off-grid application, is searching for Finnish partners for joint venture activity related to the expansion of the existing manufacture of LED bulbs as well as renewable energy projects in Zimbabwe and neighbouring African countries. Renewable energy projects include solar distribution, manufacturing targeting mainly low income and rural and marginalised communities. Solar Home Systems, Mini grids, and commercial level Megawatt solar plants Global Solar is also looking for partners willing to pilot wind energy in Zimbabwe.
Project descriptionThe company, established in 2018, is based in Harare, Zimbabwe, and currently employs 33 people. The company’s mission is to reduce poverty and improve the quality of life for people throughout sub-Saharan Africa through the promotion of affordable technology powered by renewable energy, distributed to people not served by, or unable to afford connection to, an electricity grid. The company’s main products include LED bulbs and services of supply, installation and maintenance of solar energy systems. The customers so far have been mainly in Zimbabwe, in both the private and public sector. Also, projects have been conducted in Zambia. The company is currently looking for a partner to start joint venture activity and seeks for investments to expand both the LED bulb assembly line and solar energy installation.
