Project abstractCENTRO DE DESARROLLO TÉCNICO PRODUCTIVO, a Peruvian company specialised in textiles and handicrafts as a mean to support the financial needs of an important project to help teenage mothers in Lima, is searching for Finnish partners for trade intermediation of handicrafts and textiles in Finland and Nordic countries. The above mentioned production is the support for a bigger project called “Teenage Mothers Centre”, which since year 2000 has so far been attended by 1,002 teenage mothers in state of absolute abandonment.
Project descriptionThis organization, established in 1996 is based in Lima - Peru and currently employs 5 persons. Until now the activities of the organization has been considered in the normative frame of NGOs and the financial sources that mainly supported their performance have come from international NGOs and organizations as the Norwegian Strømme. Now, CEDETEP is aiming to establish a branch of itself as a commercial company which will mainly serve to support the teenage mothers who depend on it. This new company will also perform as a platform for reintroducing teenage mothers after they pass through the supportive process in CEDETEP. So the people who will be mainly working in this company will be the teenage mothers of the centre, until they will be able to launch their own ventures and continue developing in life.
The company’s main products include handmade textiles as crocheted knitted bedspreads, artisanal key chains, crocheted knitted toys, seeds and wood made handicrafts. The company has also ventured in bakery with the production of Christmas breads, mainly for local consumption.
The customers so far have been local markets in the surrounding areas in Lima.
The company is currently looking for a partner to perform as a trade channel for the commercialization of the handicrafts and textiles in Finland and other Nordic countries. A possibility to develop a joint venture can also be considered for the massive bakery production considering the high volume markets that can be approached in Lima (according to last statistical figures the city has a population of more than 10 million persons).
The concept of helping teenage mothers and also arising awareness of the problem in order to lead to political and structural solutions, gives this project a great advantage for positioning the production not only in regular markets but also in fair trade markets.
